Case Study for: Prolific Studio | Borlaug 3D Animation
Prolific Studio partnered with Borlaug to create a stylized 3D animated video that raises awareness about climate and facility control in shared environments.
The story follows two filthy characters who sneak into a bar and spread animated germs and fungal growth, visually representing poor climate conditions. The chaos transitions into a man waking from a nightmare and checking his tablet, reassured by Borlaug’s system maintaining stable conditions.
Through humor and exaggerated visual storytelling, the video creatively communicates the importance of air quality and environmental monitoring in a way that’s both engaging and easy to understand.

Our Streamlined Approach
We combined exaggerated character animation with clean visual storytelling, built a humorous but relatable storyline, and used detailed simulation effects to highlight the difference Borlaug’s systems make.
Challenges
One key challenge was designing characters that looked gross enough to represent contamination, yet humorous enough to be likable.
Simulating animated fungal spread and germ particles without overloading render times also required careful optimization.
We needed to create smooth visual transitions from a chaotic bar scene to a calm bedroom environment, while conveying the shift in mood and tone.
Finally, the in app UI had to look futuristic, functional and believable! all within a few seconds of screen time.
Solutions
Our design team created custom shaders and rigging for the germ characters, ensuring a balance of humor and detail.
We used Blender’s geometry nodes and VFX compositing to simulate slime, fungal growth, and airborne particles efficiently.
The lighting team crafted a smooth, cinematic transition from party to peaceful night using Redshift’s dynamic lighting tools.
We also designed a tablet interface from scratch and animated it with subtle, readable micro interactions to communicate system status instantly.
Each scene was rendered in layers for faster compositing and real time flexibility during post production.
Results and Success
The animation was featured in Borlaug’s internal training modules and public awareness campaigns, where it immediately stood out for its originality and clarity.
It significantly increased viewer retention compared to traditional explainers and was praised for making a technical topic feel fun and accessible.
The client reported stronger engagement during presentations and workshops, and the video became a go-to tool for showcasing Borlaug’s value proposition in a memorable way.
